Hi,

I was wondering that myself because I wanted to sail from France to San Francisco. After much research, a 36 feet long boat seemed like to perfect size for a trans-atlantic crossing.
So, I did it: France->San Francisco, 1 year, 10000 Miles.

Check the boat:
Check the trip:
Check my notes about what to buy etc:

I just sold my boat for 72K

I've gone on trips over a week in a 15 foot kayak. It all depends on how much comfort you want. I'd want at least a 22 foot sailboat for that. 60 + for transatlantic.

How about the best of both worlds? A sailing yacht with an inboard engine.
The rest of the question is pretty much subjective - as far as size and price, it's totally up to you and your platinum Master Card.
