FLORIDA KEYS resident or expert?

Florida Boating No Comments »

I am taking a vacation in a couple of weeks and would like to go to the Florida Keys..
I am seeking advice on a safe and child oriented location to go.
I have a 6yr old, 10yr old and 15yr old so it really has to be family based area with lots of activities for kids.
I am aware of the amusement parks, Im trying to get away from that and do something a little less high strung..
Boats tours, seashells, snorkeling, fishing, stuff like that.. but it has to be in the Keys area…
Hope someone can help… Thank You :)

Did you know the columbians tried to build a huge submarine to smuggle drugs?

Florida Boating No Comments »

They have been known to use small ambient pressure subs to shuttle between boats and shore or even travel all the way to florida.

Is it possible to swim from Cuba to Florida?

Florida Boating 4 Comments »

Cuba is 90 miles from the Keys in Florida.
This Cuban guy told me that he waited for a storm one day and the day after when the storm had died down he started swimming to the USA and that is how he got here.

Could this story be possibly true?

He said he waited for the day after the storm because this is when the ocean is the calmest and the risk of getting side tracked by the ocean currents is low. Supposibly the currents going from East to West cause many Cubans coming to the USA to miss the Keys or southern tip of Florida and to end up drifting around in the Gulf of Mexico somewhere!

He said Castro had just given permission for anyone that wanted to to leave the Island and a lot of people had started making their way by boat during the storm. That there were at some points dead people and turned over boats floating around that didn’t make it the night before. And that this is what saved him from the sharks because they were feeding on the other dead people and so left him alone
Are there any swimmers out there that have swum 90 miles or that believe it is possible to swim 90 miles?

This story just sounds so hard to believe.

Is there a restriction for boating from coast line of Florida to Cuba? If so, what would I need to pass?

Florida Boating 2 Comments »
Brian L asked:

Not mean to copy Miami Vice but I always wanted to do that
just go to Cuba for dinner and come back or something haha,
the boat i’m gonna have there will be fast enough to do the job,
but i know there’s no flights from US to Cuba and vice versa so i’m just wondering. Is it also true that boats that can do 75knotts or miles(unsure which one) / hour is registered with the FBI? will i have trouble transferring ownership over given that i’m Canadian if that is the case?
